Sunaura Taylor is an artist, writer and activist. She lives in New York and is currently doing her PhD in American Studies at NYU. Beasts of Burden, her forthcoming book, explores the intersections of animal ethics and disability studies.
I met Sunaura Taylor in Washington Square Park on one of the first cold mornings of mid-November. After we set up all my technical equipment (two Go Pro cameras, two camera mounts for our wheelchairs, two microphones, two audio recording devices), we left the park and wheeled for two hours with her dog Bailey around the surroundings of the New York University campus and the East Village.
In this short video clip, Sunaura talks about her move to New York City from Oakland last year. Watch or listen to learn more about the differences in terms of physical access between two large U.S. cities and about what Sunaura calls disability death traps.
